Episode 2 · The Harvest

It’s October in West Tennessee, and the cotton Franklin planted in the spring is ready to pick, but the window is short and rain can ruin a crop that’s still in the field. Once the harvest is in, it goes to the gin, where the machinery separates the useful fiber from the seed and hulls. The crop is made in the field and saved or lost in the weather.
